October 2024’s Die Alone is a post-apocalyptic story of a pandemic that kills most Americans. In this story from writer-director Lowell Dean, one of the unfortunate side effects of the pandemic is that it can turn people into plant-based zombie. It’s almost like a zombie story for vegans.
The film stars Carrie-Anne Moss (well known as Trinity from the Matrix films, and her memorable role in Christopher Nolan’s Memento) as Mae, a no-nonsense survivor who has made a comfortable life for herself on the plains. She meets a young man, Ethan (Douglas Smith), takes pity on him and his partial amnesia, and helps him search for his missing girlfriend.
We sat down with Carrie-Anne Moss to discuss the film, how the film (shot in Saskatchewan) reminds her of winter, and her connection to Myrtle — the zombie she has tied up in front of her house to keep her company.
