Godzilla Minus Zero

Remember when Koichi Shikishima blew Godzilla to pieces at the end of Godzilla Minus One? Japan wishes it had stayed that simple. Godzilla Minus Zero picks up two years later, in 1949. The country has just about stopped eating its own shoes and is clinging to a hard-won peace. Naturally, a new threat arrives to crush hope in an instant.
Takashi Yamazaki returns as director and, as before, handles the effects himself. That's the same job that won Minus One an Oscar for visual effects, so he's presumably still not asking anyone to hold his coffee. Ryunosuke Kamiki is back as the ex-kamikaze pilot Shikishima, alongside Minami Hamabe as Noriko Oishi, Yuki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Jun Kunimura and Miou Tanaka as Captain Tatsuo Hotta.
The first trailer reportedly sends the kaiju toward New York. The Statue of Liberty should probably start a very short will.
At 135 minutes, it's a mix of science fiction, horror and action. Its tagline is "Feel it all," which sounds like a threat from a film that made you cry over a giant lizard the first time. Bring tissues, and perhaps a helmet.
