Boneyard

"Boneyard" is like a messy deck of cards shuffled haphazardly by four screenwriters, resulting in a lackluster thriller that fails to hit the mark. With Mel Gibson's character largely dealt out, the film tries to juggle lurid serial-killer suspense and convoluted procedural elements but ends up feeling clunky and inept. The narrative is cluttered with clichés and contrived backstories, giving each character a moment of crying or violent hysteria without much substance. Despite some actors maintaining dignity, others struggle due to poor writing and direction. The film lacks momentum, tension, or atmosphere, resembling a forgettable TV procedural episode with shaky cam aesthetics and an unimpressive score. While attempting to pay tribute to the victims of the West Mesa Murders, "Boneyard" ultimately misses the mark by exploiting their tragedy in a mediocre B-movie that falls short of being engaging or respectful.
