Editor’s Note: Reverse the Curse, a passion project by acclaimed X-Files and Californication star David Duchovny, reaches U.S. theaters in June 2024. Based on his best-selling 2016 novel Bucky F*cking Dent, the tragicomic story explores a father-son relationship and its link to a passion for baseball.
Duchovny plays Marty opposite Logan Marshall-Green (of Upgrade and Spider-Man: Homecoming fame), who plays Marty’s son, Ted. The two have been estranged for years, but when Ted discovers Marty has terminal lung cancer, he moves in to help his dad out. Despite living in New York, Marty is a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan, and when Ted discovers his dad’s health is directly linked to the success the Sox have, he begins to fake the team’s success — with the help of some of Marty’s friends. The cast is rounded out by Stephanie Beatriz as a friendly grief counselor, Evan Handler, Pamela Adlon (always a welcome presence since her Louie days), Jason Beghe, and Daphne Rubin-Vega.
In this video interview with Duchovny, Screenopolis contributor (and diehard X-Files x-pert) Alyse Wax gets to the heart of the 20-years-in-the-making movie’s autobiographical inspirations, and why they changed the title from Bucky F*cking Dent to Reverse the Curse.
